Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for an Educational Interpreter (ASL) to support a Kindergarten student who is fully deaf with cochlear implants and transitioning into elementary school. This contract role will provide dedicated 1:1 interpreting services to facilitate effective munication and learning in a classroom setting for grades K-5.

Location: Huntingdon, Pennsylvania (approximately 20 minutes from Penn State and about an hour from Harrisburg).

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 American Sign Language interpreting for a fully deaf Kindergarten student with cochlear implants.
• Facilitate munication between student, teachers, and peers in the classroom environment.
• Collaborate with the existing onsite interpreter who supports a 2nd-grade student for guidance and coordination.
• Support the students transition into elementary education and adapt interpretation methods as needed based on student progress.
• Maintain confidentiality and ply with educational and legal requirements related to special education interpretation.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
• Prior experience interpreting for young children, particularly in early elementary grades (K-5).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an educational setting.
• Familiarity with cochlear implants and early intervention experience preferred.

Position Details:

• Contract duration: Full school year (NSY).
• Fully onsite role located in an elementary school setting.
• Interviews begin the week of July 28th.
